When you think of love, what do you think? What does it mean to you? Is it in what you do or is it more of what you feel? Love is the one thing that is asked of us by God, to simply love. There are many ways to express love and I want to break down what love means. It is more than saying I love you to someone, it is more than the butterflies you get when you around someone. We use the word love so loosely and forget what it truly means.
First, we need to understand that God at his core is love. He gave his son to die for us because he loves us and wants save us. He wants to have a real relationship with us and be our father. Everything God does, he does because he loves us and wants the best for us. Even when we aren’t getting what we want and feel like everything is wrong, God is doing it to discipline us and teach us something. But what exactly is love? How do we know that we are doing things with love?
1 Corthinians 13:4-7
Love is patient, it is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices in the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always preserves.
Does you actions and way of thinking match what scripture says about love? That is reason hearts get broken and marriages end in divorce. We never really pay attention to what we are doing and our relationships end in destruction. I want to talk to the men especially. Any man who is married or wants to get married. Think about what scripture says about love and what it says a man should be for his wife.
Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her
Think about this for a moment guys. Jesus was sent to the cross to be crucified by the church. God is asking one of the most honorable things of a man to be as a husband. Your wife is your church, you are suppose to honor and treat her with the upmost respect. Somewhere along the way we lost focus of that. She won’t always be perfect or do what you expect, but that is your wife. Love her anyways, Jesus did it for you! And ladies, if your husband is doing his best to be a leader and is following scripture, respect him and forgive him if he makes a mistake along the way.
I challenge the men who read this to take to heart what scripture says about love and marriage. Examine yourself and truly see if you are living a life of love according to what God says love is, or are you living a life of love according to what we are led to believe love is? Are you loving your wife or future wife the way Jesus loved the church? Think about it for a while. As always, I am just trying to open the eyes of anyone who reads this and hopefully help some people. I thank you for your time and God bless you you all!
